The reasons why I read Young Adult books.

People ask me why I read Young Adult books if I am an adult. Sometimes they ask me to read Adult books because that’s what I “should read”, and I have to explain over and over again why I wont read them. First of all. because I want to. It’s my choice and I am so happy with that choice.  I know I don’t need to give people an explanation about the things I like, but I am sure that many adults goes through the same. Plus, I just want to explain you and the world the best thing about Young Adult books.

I read Young Adult novels because I love teenagers and I love when I was a teenager. I know, it’s all about the nostalgia. YA books makes me feel young and gets me back to so many teenage memories that I want to keep with me. Memories that I want to revisit and feel them again. When we are teenagers we feel free, we are brave, passionate, rebels, and as we grow up we kind of leave most of those qualities behind. At least, it happened to me. Now, I would never do things I used to do before and I am inside this shell of fear and anxiety, which is terrible.

YA novels reminds me the kind of person I was and helps to fix what I am now. They are better than going to therapy. YA re-kindle that long lost spirit of feeling infinite and alive.

I will keep reading YA and I will write YA until I decide to move on. If ever.

This is just my opinion. Share your thoughts and comments below.

  1. This is awesome. I’m 17 years old, so I don’t exactly understand how you feel. However, I’m glad you posted this. Now I know how a lot of adults feel and what to expect in my coming years. Thanks for the post. 🙂

  2. haha, now I feel bad for asking you why you keep reading YA, but hey, we’ve already had this conversation (more than once) and I totally get it. Keep up the good work, lady.

P.S. I would love to read some of your writing in spanish.
